How to Stay Focused on Your Dreams During the Holidays

by Joyce Dunaway @DunawayJoyce

It’s tempting to put your dreams on hold during the holidays—too much to do and not enough time. Preparing for and celebrating Christmas and New Year’s takes an enormous amount of time and energy. Decreasing the amount of time you work on your dreams is better than not doing anything.

Following are some tips for staying focused on your dreams during the Holidays:

REARRANGE YOUR SCHEDULE

No matter how hectic your day might be still schedule a specific time to work. This might mean getting up earlier or eliminating watching a Christmas movie. Accomplishing something will keep your momentum going.

DELEGATE

Enlist family members or hire a teenager to help with decorating, shopping, and wrapping gifts. Accept the fact others may not do things exactly the way you would, but that’s okay.

LOWER YOUR EXPECTATIONS

The ‘Perfect Christmas’ doesn’t exist. Our goal is to celebrate the birth of Jesus—not exhaust ourselves. Don’t compare your efforts with anyone else’s.

MAKE CHOICES

The purpose of get-togethers is fellowship with family and friends. Serving store-bought cookies, cakes, or pies won’t diminish that time together.

If you normally send numerous Christmas cards, pare down your list and only include your closest family and friends.

Choose innovative ways to show love without spending hours finding the ‘Perfect Gift’. For example, a phone conversation with someone you won’t see might mean more than a wrapped gift.

Select which get-togethers and parties to attend—those you think you would enjoy the most.

I would love to hear how you’ve remained focused on your dreams during the Holidays. Please share your thoughts in the comment section below.
