How a Positive Attitude Can Help in the Pursuit of Your Dreams

by Joyce Dunaway @DunawayJoyce

Sometimes it’s hard to be positive after receiving several rejection notices, failing to procure the agent you desire, or spending numerous hours on a chapter to have it dissected negatively in a critique group. Bouncing back after being pummeled by rejection is difficult.

Following are some ways a positive attitude can help in the pursuit of your dreams:

JOY

No matter what happens we can find something to be joyful about. When an agent rejected my first manuscript, she included some encouraging comments. I printed the letter and read it when I’m discouraged. “You have let me experience the joys of life and the exquisite pleasures of your own eternal presence.” Psalm 16:11

PEACE

The assurance we are following God’s call helps us do our best and leave the results and timing to Him. “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God which surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7

FAITH

Stepping out in faith by presenting our work to others is scary. We fear rejection. Remember it’s our writing that is being rejected, not us personally. “The righteous will live by faith.” Romans 1:17

HOPE

Hope is a desire accompanied by expectation of or belief in fulfillment. It is hope which gives us the incentive to continue despite disappointments. “Be joyful in hope, patient in tribulation, faithful in prayer.” Romans 12:12

FULFILLMENT

The joy and satisfaction of accomplishing a dream is more fulfilling than monetary rewards. “He will fulfill the desire of those who fear Him.” Psalm 145:19
