How Humility Can Help You Achieve Your Dreams

by Joyce Dunaway @DunawayJoyce

The dictionary defines a humble person as one who is not haughty or arrogant. The Bible says a humble person is one who does not think too highly of oneself.

We often equate humility with weakness, but the great leader Moses was described as a humble man. (Numbers 12:3)

(Jesus) being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. (Philippians 2:8)

The Bible also tells us: “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” (James 4:6)

Following are some ways humility can help you achieve your dreams:

At times you may feel overwhelmed and inadequate to accomplish your dream. Depending on God for wisdom, knowledge, and strength is the path to success. Don’t be frightened by the size of the task, for the Lord my God is with you; He will not forsake you. He will see to it that everything is finished correctly. (I Chronicles 28:20)

Jesus often prayed for strength and wisdom to accomplish His mission on earth. He went out to the mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God. And when it was day, He called His disciples to Himself; and from them He chose twelve whom He also named apostles.(Luke 6:12-13) He knelt down and prayed, saying, “Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.” (Luke 22: 41-42)

If Jesus needed to pray for guidance and strength, we need it even more.

Admitting we don’t know everything opens our minds to learn new methods of achieving our dream. This knowledge can be acquired through the wisdom of others, courses in our field of endeavor, reading, and research.

Thanking others for their assistance will keep our egos in check. Asking others to help us in the pursuit of our dreams allows them to feel involved in the process. Many friends and family members would be glad to become part of your prayer team, launch team, or promotion team. As a result, you will develop new relationships and enhance current ones. Success is often a group effort.

When we’re on our dream journey, we can look behind us and see others struggling to achieve a similar goal. By sharing what we’ve learned it will help them and remind us of the people who have assisted and inspired us to reach this portion of our journey.

I would love to hear how humility has helped you achieve your dreams. Please share your thoughts in the section below.
