Dare to D.R.E.A.M.

by Joyce Dunaway @DunawayJoyce

Is there something you’ve always wanted to do but never got the chance? Is it taking ballet lessons; writing a novel; climbing Mt. Everest; getting a college degree; going to Australia?

What has kept you from achieving this dream? Is it fear, lack of time, finances, or health issues? If it’s been years since you’ve even considered pursuing this goal, perhaps you feel you’re too old or it’s too late to start.

Following are some suggestions that will help you embark on the journey of pursuing your dream:

DARE TO DREAM

“Where there is no vision, the people perish.” (Proverbs 29:18) Take the time to daydream. Visualize how your life would be enhanced when you achieve your goals. Display visual reminders around your home. Place your photo at the top of the mountain, within the ballet troupe, or in the bookstore beside the shelves where your published novel would be displayed.

REJOICE

By breaking your goals into small achievable steps, you’ll see progress along the journey. Take time to celebrate the accomplishment of each step. Choose something you enjoy—reading a novel; getting a manicure, pedicure, or massage; going to lunch with a friend; or going to a movie. This joyful experience will encourage you to continue.

BE ENTHUSIASTIC

“Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.” (Ralph Waldo Emerson) Being excited about your dream will help you continue your quest even when you encounter obstacles.

TAKE ACTION

The dictionary describes action as the accomplishment of something usually over a period of time, in stages. Although visualizing your dream is important, it will not be achieved without action. “In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.”(James 2: 17) If one of your excuses is age, there’s an excellent poem which might encourage you. It is entitled “It’s Never Too Late to Begin”. (Author Anonymous)

STAY MOTIVATED

Focus on the main reason you are pursuing your dream. When tasks become difficult, this incentive will help you keep going.
